OPERA FASHION HISTORY

In the early 1950s, Maria Callas began working with Alain Reynaud as her personal fashion advisor. He consulted with her on what to wear, how to choose items that would look good on her shape, fabrics, prints, complementary colors and how to accessorize her pieces in her daily life and the stage.

This photo by the famous photographer Horst P. Horst, depicts Maria’s new emergence as a stylish woman in 1952 in New York City. By the mid 50s, she solidified herself as one of the most stylish women of all times by wearing dresses similar in style and cut to the one Sara is wearing in our curated collection.

Like Callas, sometimes you need to know when you are out of your element and trust a professional stylist. Throughout the 1960s, Callas famously wore Chanel, YSL, Gucci, Pucci and Lanvin … all brands Sara infamously wears around the RV Parks of America that she frequents. When you wear vintage, you are wearing a piece of history.

I would like to be Maria, but there is La Callas who demands that I carry myself with her dignity. -Maria Callas
